Dr. Michael Dorrell

English/English Literature/TOK Teacher

    Dr. Michael Dorrell is a native English speaker, with BSc (Hons) 1st Class and PhD degrees from UK universities and is a long-time permanent resident in Hong Kong.

    He has a great deal of experience in teaching/mentoring to a wide variety of age groups. He has tutored and prepared teenagers for the Cambridge University PET, IGCSE English (first language), IGCSE English (second language) and IGCSE English Literature, GCE English and IELTS exams. He has been closely involved in the IB mentoring and tutoring of subjects such as English Language and Literature and Theory of Knowledge as well as the detailed applications process for university admissions around the world. He has also taught business English to adults in their company setting and has edited university undergraduate and postgraduate theses and dissertations.

    Joseph Hess

    English/English Literature Teacher

      Joseph obtained his Bachelor of Arts (1st class Hons) degree in Time Based Media from the University of the West of England in the UK, specialising in Visual Culture, Literary Adaptations and Scriptwriting. He has experience teaching English to a wide range of ages and abilities from upper primary and secondary to university and post-graduate students. He is experienced in teaching IGCSE, GCSE, GCE, IB and HKDSE English Language/English Literature.

      With a lifelong interest in literature and a background in reader development as part of a dynamic library team in the UK, he is well placed to guide students to discover and explore the exciting challenges and joys of English for themselves.

      Jonathan

      English/English Literature Teacher

        Jonathan is a native English speaker who was born and raised in Canada. He completed his high school education at an international school in Hong Kong and had experience in the IB and IGCSE examinations, achieving a high score in his IB Higher Level English. He graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in English and focusing on English Literature. He has also obtained a certificate in TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages).  He is currently studying his masters in English Studies through distance learning at University of Nottingham.

        Jonathan believes that teachers can affect a student for a lifetime and the best learning environment is one that is empathetic towards student needs and levels. He sets for himself the goal of making all his classes both informative and enjoyable. He is experienced in teaching the subjects of English Language and English Literature to students of different ages.

        Mrs. Leesinsky

        English/English Literature Teacher

          Mrs. Leesinsky holds a BA in English from the University of Calgary, a Certificate in Education from the Singapore National Institute of Education, and a Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from the University of Edinburgh. She has taught in a number of secondary schools in Hong Kong for over 10 years. With a strong educational background coupled with many years of experience in teaching English Language and English Literature in Hong Kong and Singapore, she is confident she can help students prepare for the challenges of objective measures like the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination and international exams.

          Mrs. Leesinsky is a Singapore citizen who has been a permanent resident of Hong Kong for the past 20 years. Her career has recently taken a different and interesting direction as she focuses more on preparing students for external tests such as TOEFL and IELTS. In the last few years she has had solid experience in working with Asian students whose native language is not English. Her students have achieved good grades needed for university acceptance into study programmes of their choice.

          John

          Spanish Teacher

            John is a native Spanish speaker who graduated from a university in Venezuela with a degree in law. For the past seven years, John has been teaching Spanish in Hong Kong at different levels. Apart from being experienced in helping students prepare for public exams such as IGCSE and DELE, he has also taught Spanish for fun, travelling and business.

            Philip Mills

            English Language/French/German/History Teacher

              Educated and trained as a linguist/translator/interpreter, Philip Mills holds an MA (Honours) degree in European Languages and Literatures from the University of Waikato in his native New Zealand. He is therefore not only a native speaker of English, but also trained and educated in the grammar and structure of the English language. He has also undertaken a transition Teaching Diploma.

              Philip’s very international career has spanned seven countries across Europe, Asia and the Pacific. Highlights include teaching English, French, German and History in private schools in New Zealand and England, and also a significant private sector career in Human Resources in Asia Pacific, during which he devised and taught his own training courses.

              Philip speaks English, French, German and basic Cantonese. His language skills, his training in literary analysis, his people-focused corporate career and a deep life-long passion for reading position him as a strong teacher of both language and literature. He is capable of teaching English, French, German and History at various levels.

              Charmaine

              English/English Literature Teacher

                Charmaine graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in English and English Literature from the Chinese University of Hong Kong.  She then obtained her Master’s degree in Gender, Literature and Modernity from the University of Warwick in the UK. She started her private English tuition when she was in university.  She has also been an English instructor at various institutes in Hong Kong.

                Charmaine believes that learning is an intellectual communication of knowledge, culture and experience, and the learning process should be fun, lively and not only be textbook-based. She has been teaching students of diverse backgrounds, ranging from Year/Grade 1 to undergraduate levels. With her passion in English Language teaching and her expertise in English Literature, she is well regarded by students and parents.

                Snowy

                Chinese and Putonghua Teacher

                  Snowy Fu completed her Master of Arts programme in Putonghua Education at the Chinese University of Hong Kong. She achieved level 1-B (at least 92% correct) in the National Putonghua Proficiency Test (PSC). She has taught Chinese and Putonghua at secondary and post-secondary schools for more than 10 years. She is also experienced in teaching Chinese at IGCSE and GCE levels. Her tutorials aim to help students improve their Chinese reading comprehension using proper techniques such as analysis, induction, appreciation and evaluation. Students are also taught different writing techniques; the planning and structures behind narrative, descriptive and argumentative essays; and how to appropriately use the Chinese language to express their thoughts and feelings.

                  Mr. HK Wong

                  Chinese Language (MOI Putonghua)/Cantonese and ESL Teacher

                    Mr. HK Wong holds a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in Translation from Lingnan University and a Diploma in Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL) from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. He has been teaching Chinese (Putonghua being the medium of instruction), Chinese writing and Cantonese (to non-Chinese-speaking students) at various institutes for a number of years. He has also taught English at a university on the Chinese mainland and at various organizations in Hong Kong.
                    Mr. Wong has a near-native command of Putonghua. He attains Grade B Level One in the Test of Proficiency in Putonghua conducted by the State Commission on Language Work. Prior to embarking on his teaching career, he worked for over 14 years as a civil servant in Hong Kong, holding various positions including Chinese Language Officer, Executive Officer and Administrative Officer. He is well versed in civil service recruitment examinations such as CRE and JRE.

                    Gershom

                    Spanish/ Psychology/ English Teacher

                      Gershom is a native Spanish and English speaker who is originally from Barcelona, Spain. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree (1 st Class Honours) in Psychology from Upper Iowa University in the United States. He has extensive experience teaching Spanish to Chinese students in Spain, the UK and Hong Kong. For the past four years, Gershom has been teaching Spanish and English to a wide range of students at different levels in Hong Kong. As a lifelong learner, he is able to speak five languages fluently including Putonghua. He has a keen interest in Psychology and Religion. He is capable of teaching Spanish up to an advanced level, as well as English Language and Psychology.

                      Camille

                      English/English Literature Teacher

                        Camille has over five years of teaching experience in Hong Kong and London. Her students range from 3 to 17 years old. Apart from English Language, she has also taught English Literature at all levels in different curricula and exam boards, such as IB, I-GCSE, GCE A Levels, SAT, TOEFL, 11+, 13+ and First Certificate and so on. She has even prepared adults for the IELTS exam. In addition, she has experience in teaching English drama, phonics, reading, writing and speaking skills.

                        Camille is a compassionate, fun-loving and interactive teacher who keeps her students’ personality and ability in mind while working with them and helping them excel.

                        For her secondary education, Camille attended Marymount Secondary School. She later attained a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from City University of Hong Kong, but her passion for the English language drove her to study English Literature afterwards. She received her Master’s degree in English Literature from Queen Mary University of London and will soon be completing her PGCE in English at the University of Oxford. Her diverse education background enables her to use a wide range of systematic and analytical approaches in English language training, which all her students benefit from.

                        Jeffrey

                        Primary English and Mathematics Teacher

                          Jeffrey is a native English speaker who was raised and educated in Scotland and England.  He is a passionate educator committed to teaching English and Mathematics from kindergarten to junior secondary levels.  He is particularly experienced in teaching choral speaking, phonics, Cambridge – Fun for Flyers, Letterland, TOEFL Junior, and Primary Mathematics. He has over five years of experience teaching Mathematics and English.
